Residential Comfort Meets Luxury: Inside The Eliot Hotel’s Complete Redesign by Alix Keating

A Home Away from Home

Keating approached the renovation with a singular vision: to create rooms that feel collected, personal, and effortlessly comfortable. Her goal was for guests to feel as though they are stepping into a private European townhouse rather than a hotel, spaces where you can linger, read by the window, and unwind completely.

Two distinctive palettes set the tone.
Warm cream and ivory is layered with subtle tonal textures to create a sense of understated elegance.
Cool, soothing blues are inspired by New England’s coastal light, offering a calm and serene retreat.

These palettes are anchored by clean-lined, modern furnishings, but the original crown moldings and historic architectural details remain, preserving the building’s 1920s heritage while introducing a contemporary perspective.

Every Detail Considered

Alix Keating’s design elevates both comfort and luxury through carefully curated details.
Layered lighting creates a warm, intimate atmosphere at any time of day.
Curated artwork reflects Boston’s cultural depth while adding personality and charm to each room.
Custom furniture, plush upholstery, and tailored drapery combine to make the rooms feel both sophisticated and deeply comfortable.
Bespoke cabinetry and finishes ensure functionality is seamless and beautiful.

“The Eliot has such a strong personality,” Keating says. “I wanted to let its history shine through while creating a space that feels personal, collected over time, but still beautifully polished.”

Residential Luxury Reimagined

The design embraces the hotel’s original spirit as a residential retreat for academics while updating it for today’s traveler. Rooms are scaled for intimacy, layered with textures and furnishings that feel welcoming, and detailed with subtle luxury that rewards exploration. Guests notice a new feature or detail each time they return, making the experience feel ever-evolving yet comfortably familiar.

Whether it is a cream-and-ivory retreat or a calming blue suite, the redesigned rooms invite guests to slow down, enjoy the refined residential feel, and experience the rare comfort of luxury that truly feels like home.
